The Art of Cultivating your Inner Peace and Calmness
November 6, 2024Prayer is communication with God. We dedicate our time to speaking to God about our lives here. Jesus was prayerful when He was on Earth. He taught and led His disciples to understand prayer and how to do it. The method of prayer was one of the first lessons that Jesus taught them. He laid bare the dos and don’ts in prayer and supervised how the disciples were following it up. Prayer existed long before Jesus came into the world.
However, people kept doing it wrong and they did not achieve intimacy with God through it. Jesus demonstrated how to steer our prayers in that direction. Our prayer life needs an equal effort as we put in other relationships to the point of developing intimacy with Him. Prayer intimacy with God is a great achievement in your Christian life.
Anything you need from God is first sought through prayer. Even the most difficult requests are granted during intimate moments. It is because of the deep emotional and spiritual connection established during intimacy. This secret is why Jesus taught that we shall receive whatever we ask for in prayer. Do you want to receive favor before strangers, have peace in your heart, pass that job interview, be healed of any sickness, or have a successful business? Prayer intimacy with get you all the answers you need. This is the path to it:
- Be intentional.
Prayer is not another routine in your life. It is sacred and God needs you to make it intentional. Create time out of your busy schedule to pray and let it become your lifestyle. Jesus taught about the intention of prayer – not to act like the hypocrites whose hearts are not in prayer but to be noticed by other people.
Consider how you manage important relationships in your life. Everything that you do in it is intentional in making it work for both of you. The stories you engage in, the jokes you make, and the small gossip talk about this and that are all meant to make the relationship work. It takes a lot of effort to sustain a healthy relationship.
You will know more about God as you make prayer intentional. He will reveal things about Himself that you have never known. This is how you slowly become the center of God’s attention. Your intimacy just began!
- Be genuine.

To be genuine is to have no hidden agenda. Why do you pray to God? Is it because you want something from Him or because you love Him? Loving God and genuinely expressing it in prayer is the fastest way of developing intimacy with Him.
God loves those who are genuine with Him. He embraces them and brings them into His inner circle. The intention of your heart as you pray to God determines whether or not He will welcome you into His inner circle. Ensure you have a clear mind and heart as you go to pray if you seek prayer intimacy with God. Those who honor Him with their lips only yet their hearts are far from God can never achieve intimacy with Him.
True love is intimate and praying to God expresses it more boldly. Again, true love is genuine. If you manage to express it boldly, you are guaranteed prayer intimacy with God.
- Acknowledge the supremacy of God.
God loves to be acknowledged for who He is. It is the reason the Lord’s Prayer begins with “Our Father in Heaven, hallowed be your name…” This prayer puts God in His place – Heaven. He is not any other father but the one above. This also reflects on the nature of our relationship with different people. They want to be acknowledged as a part of your life. They become more comfortable in it when they are not just a footnote in your life story.
Intimacy with God develops and increases when you are bold about His place in your life. Jesus taught about the importance of acknowledging Him both in public and in private. Being a witness of Christ everywhere you go will make you intimate with Him. Those who are proud of their partners speak endlessly about them because they want everyone to know how amazing they are.
In exchange, God will answer all your prayers because His reputation is also on the line. He will come through for you and vouch for you even when you least expect Him to. He will show the whole world your intimacy with Him.
- Ask for provision.

Asking God for provision is included in the Lord’s Prayer – “Give us today our daily bread.” You can only ask for something from someone more powerful than yourself. It is the reason we ask God for daily provision. It does not matter how resourced or connected you are, you should always ask God for your daily provision. It is He who enables you to meet your expectations.
Asking God for provision is part of prayer intimacy. We ask Him nicely when on our best behavior and He will provide it to us. Consider how nicely a child asks for provision from his father. It is very intimate and full of love to the point that the father can hardly refuse. He will do his best not to let down the child. If we know how to give good gifts to our children, how much more is it with God?
You get closer to God when you ask him for your provision. It puts him on the steering wheel of your life. As a good Father, He becomes responsible for your life when you ask Him to. All of this comes from prayer intimacy.
- Seek forgiveness.
Seeking forgiveness is part of prayer intimacy with God. Since we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, it is important to ask for forgiveness from Him to maintain our relationship. An apology made intimately is quickly granted.
Every time you repent before God, He appreciates how you value your relationship with Him. It means a lot to Him that you are equally concerned about your relationship. This is how you develop prayer intimacy with God.
Your relationship with God is an important part of your life. Set it right and everything will fall in place perfectly.
