Understanding and Meeting the Expectations of God
July 25, 2024“…let us make man in our image, in our likeness…” This Biblical passage confirms the identity of man.
When God looks at you, He sees himself. This is how He intended it to become during creation. You are a perfect image of your Father above. He created you with eyes because He has them. He gave you hands and feet because he also has them. This is what being an image of someone or something means – you are a complete duplicate of the original.
Consider how you look at yourself in the mirror. You can see how you are dressed, your hair, and the makeup you wear. You can correct anything that does not look good on you and put it in whichever way you wish. You have power over the image in the mirror because you are the real object standing before it.
This is exactly how are before God – His image – and He is the real object. He has power over us to do as He deems fit and as is His will. God is very powerful, knowledgeable, extremely wise, and holds answers to all mysteries. Considering how powerful the object (God) is, how about His image (us)? Although we cannot be as powerful as God, neither are we powerless as what is not His image. We can exercise God’s divine power in our lives because we are still His reflection and can do what he does.

Exercising the power of God in your life.
The disciples of Jesus wondered whether they could perform the miracles that Jesus Christ did. It appeared that it was beyond their reach until Jesus opened their eyes to its possibility – whoever believes in Jesus will do the works that He does. The principle behind this is that we are His image. After all, Jesus constantly reminded the disciples that whoever has seen Him has seen the Father. We can confidently say that we are an image of both of them. In addition, we can fearlessly exercise His power in our lives.
1. Casting out demons and working miracles.
Not once or twice, Jesus cast out demons from people who were possessed. He set them free from the yokes of demonic slavery and gave them a second chance at life. He transferred this power to the disciples before He ascended to Heaven. Jesus granted the disciples the power to cast demons in His name, speak in new tongues, and pray for the sick. It shall be done according to our faith in Him.
It is not the will of God that we drown in the same problems as unbelievers. The only requirement is that we have faith and believe. We reflect the power of God the way an image in the mirror is an identical copy of the original. We are fulfilling God’s wish at the beginning of creation – let us make man in our image and likeness.
2. Be creative and solve existing problems.
God is the creator of the Heavens and the Earth and everything that fills them. He created the sky, vegetation (the cactus in deserts and the tropical rainforests), all animals (both wild and domestic), fish, and birds of the air. In His creation, God did not consult with anyone about it. Everything was His original idea. This is the highest level of creativity ever seen in the world.
The Lord wanted to share His spirit of creativity with man. After all, he is in His image and likeness. He commissioned Adam to name all the animals. Whatever name Adam gave every living creature became its permanent name. It proves how Adam was indeed the image of God. He consulted with nobody about naming (even Eve was not yet created at the time).
God wants us to exercise the power of creativity in our lives, the way Adam did. You can create solutions to existing problems without waiting for God to do it for you. This is your power – to rewrite history according to the will of God. All glory and praise in expressing your creativity goes back to God in Heaven.
Consider the increase of innovations in the world – the airplane that flies from America to Australia (across the whole globe), mobile phones and internet technology (they made the world a small village), and exploration into space. This is a Christian’s power as the image of God. You are a blessing to the world.

3. Resurrection.
Jesus Christ became the first person to rise after death since creation. After the fall of man when we were condemned to death, He brought the hope of resurrection and eternal life. The Pharisees did not believe Him when He said that He would destroy and build the temple in three days. While they thought that He was referring to the actual temple where they worshipped, Jesus was referring to His death and resurrection. He conquered death and set a good precedence for us too. Christians now believe in life after death and that one day we shall resurrect and walk into eternal life, in the manner that God has destined for His people.
Jesus taught that the Father and He are one. We are created in His image and likeness. We can also conquer death because Jesus did. You can overcome death in all aspects of your life because you now have the power as an image of God. Tough economic times affect everyone and the fear of not surviving the competition is real. However, in the midst of all of that, God wants you to know that you can resurrect and turn around your fate. Nothing is written in stone except His will over your life.
A Christian’s power as the image of God is a very powerful tool that we have not yet learned to utilize fully. However, the light that we are co-creators with God is powerful. Continue to walk in His light and you shall experience His power.
