A ticket is a pass of permission which is evidence that you have paid the required fees to enjoy a service. It could be to watch a movie in the theatre or board an airplane, bus, or train. There is no question about your eligibility to enjoy a service when you have a valid ticket. The same is true about spirituality and seeking permission to enter Heaven. Heaven is where God and His Host of Angels live. It is more than a president’s state lodge or a King’s palace. For this reason, there is a proper procedure for those who want to enter Heaven.

Before the coming of the Messiah as prophesied by Prophets Isaiah and Micah, there was no easy pass to enter Heaven. The relationship between God and His people was strained after the fall of the first man. People would pray to God through the priests, offer animal sacrifices, and rarely (if not at all) experience any revival in their Spirit. However, all of this changed after the birth of Christ. This was God’s way of making it easier for us to earn a ticket to Heaven. Knowing this, Jesus said that He is the way, the truth, and the life. No one goes to the Father except through Him. He is the direct ticket to Heaven we have been waiting for.

Like with any ticket, there is a premium to pay before it is given to you. What is the premium to pay before you get the ticket of Jesus to enter Heaven?

“Declare with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead.”

Once you accept Jesus into your life, you immediately have a valid ticket.

The validity of your ticket to Heaven.

A valid air ticket has the right date and time of travel. It also has the name of the passenger supposed to travel. Some tickets are stamped to show validity and others are signed by the issuing officer to validate it. However it is issued, it is easier to identify a valid ticket. It is different from an expired one.

In this light, did you know that your ticket to Heaven has a validity mark? Yes, knowing Jesus is not an automatic pass to Heaven. Rather, how you interact with His salvation is. These are some examples of how you can enter Heaven with a valid ticket:

o   Seek Heavenly riches, not worldly treasures.

A ticket to Heaven is valid if you choose the path of Heavenly riches. Jesus taught us that we should not store our treasures on Earth because they can be destroyed or stolen. Instead, we should store treasures in Heaven where they would be very safe. Your focus on wealth accumulation should be on Heaven. This makes your ticket to Heaven valid.

Worldly riches may disappoint you when things do not go your way. This will divide your focus on God. As you approach Heaven’s gate with your valid ticket, the Lord wants you not to have an undivided attention. Put your treasures where your heart is.

o   Be willing to leave everything behind for the sake of the Kingdom of Heaven.

The Kingdom of Heaven is very demanding to those seeking to enter it. Your ticket is as valid as your willingness to enter Heaven despite anything that can persuade you to the contrary. During His ministry on Earth, many people wanted to follow Jesus and become His disciples. Despite this, Jesus chose only the twelve to become his disciples and even said that He would make them fishers of men.

Jesus knew the hearts and devotion of the people who followed him. When he told a man to follow Him, the man first asked for permission to bury his father before following Jesus. Another one first asked permission to bid farewell to his family before following Jesus. This was when Jesus highlighted how your ticket to enter Heaven can be validated or not – no one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the Kingdom of God. Your willingness to prioritize the Kingdom of Heaven before anything else is what makes your ticket to Heaven valid.

o   Follow the example of Children.

Children are young people without as much experience or knowledge as adults. They depend wholly on their parents for sustenance. Adults teach them almost everything they need to know in life until they also become responsible adults who can take care of themselves. Even after accepting Jesus into your life (who is the only ticket to entering Heaven), your ticket is valid if you follow the example of a child.

Jesus taught about this when He put a child before adults when the disciples asked who was the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven. You could have already secured your ticket to enter Heaven but it gets invalidated before you do because you did not fulfill the condition that Jesus set for us to be like children. He wants us to change and be like children for our tickets to Heaven to be valid. Those who become like children ultimately become the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Children are likable for their teachable spirit. They take correction gracefully and implement it. We should embrace the childhood spirit to validate our tickets to Heaven.

o   Do the will of God, not yours.

The will of God is supreme above anything else. Sometimes you may be conflicted between doing what you want and waiting to hear from the Lord. Do not give in to the push to fulfill your wishes. If you can disregard God while still on Earth, how much more when you are in Heaven? For this reason, God passes us through the discipline test to see if we indeed qualify to enter Heaven.

Jesus, your ticket to Heaven, speaks about our willingness to fulfill the will of God. He taught that not everyone who calls Him Lord will enter the Kingdom of Heaven but those who do the will of God. This validates your ticket to enter Heaven.

Earning your ticket is the first step to entering Heaven. The second one is to validate it in the ways highlighted above. The secret is to complete both steps.
