Embracing the Gift of Intuition
January 6, 2024Attaining world-spirit balance is an ultimate win for a believer. It is important to win both in the world and in the spirit. It was also a win for Jesus, the Messiah! The Bible records that He grew in wisdom and stature, gaining favor with God and man. This puts up a strong case for attaining world-spirit balance. You do not have to lose yourself to either of them or be forced to pick a side. God wants you to strike a balance between the two, as Jesus did. Growing up, Jesus would go to the temple listening to the teachers and asking them questions. This was the social side of His life. Those who heard Him were amazed at His knowledge and understanding that did not match his age. Despite being the son of God, the coming of Jesus into the world was not to condemn people to sin. Jesus did strike a balance between the world and the spirit by passing out as a teacher, not a judge.
There is an increasing challenge to have this very necessary balance in the current world. The fear of being judged by others as a self-righteous person threatens your world-spirit balance. There should be a way to live a Godly life without being sucked by worldly trends and at the same time win souls for Christ. This is how the Lord wants you to strike this balance:
1. Do not accept human praise.
Most people love to be praised for the good that they do. It soothes their ego and they feel important. There is no foul play in feeling good about yourself but God wants you to be cautious about it if you want to strike the world-spirit balance. You are most likely to be less spiritual when praise gets into your head. All you will be thinking will be about yourself and what more you can do to be showered with more praise. God wants you to control how people praise you because of two reasons – the first one is that it will open a door for pride and the second one is that you will become His enemy.

The Word is clear that the Lord does not share His glory with anyone or with idols. It also says that God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble. A rich man once ran to Jesus and asked Him, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” Instead of Jesus embracing the praise of being called good, He said that no one is good except God. He did not want to be trapped in worldly praise and jeopardize his spirituality. Similarly, when people praise you, deflect the praise and return glory to God. This is an additional point on your world-spirit balance.
2. Acknowledge your spirituality.
Spirituality is recognizing and believing that there is something greater than you and humanity. It is easier to lose this focus when tied to worldly things. The world has a lot of distractions that can make you blind to your spirituality. It will make you a King in the world but a beggar in the spirit. It is one of the temptations that the devil used against Jesus. He wanted Him to lose His spirituality and focus on worldly things. The devil asked Jesus to bow and worship Him but Jesus quickly defended His spirituality with the Word that it is written that we should worship God alone. Failure to acknowledge your spirituality pushes you to the edge and you may fall badly and lose even the little spiritual awareness you may have.
The temptation to blend into the world can sometimes be too much. However, God has given you the power of choice. Acknowledge Him publicly and He will pull you to His side so that you do not fall over the cliff to the world. It is written that He will deny those who deny Him publicly and embrace those who publicly acknowledge Him.
3. Have an active social life.
The Lord wants you to have an active social life. It is not in His plan to restrict you to one side only. Being social is very instrumental in both your worldly and spiritual lives. You will make more friends and it is also an advantage in spreading the gospel. Jesus was very social during His time on Earth. He interacted with everyone he met without shying away for whatever reason. (Remember He attended a wedding in Cana of Galilee?) Great crowds followed Him everywhere He went. It was His humility to interact with sinners, tax collectors, or leapers that endeared Him to the people. Jesus’ social lifestyle made Him acceptable even in Samaria where He met the woman fetching water from the well. It was out of character for Jews to speak to Samaritans yet Jesus did! This exposes us to the social nature of Jesus.

Being social increases your understanding of the lifestyles of different people and you can easily blend them among them to accomplish the mission that the Lord has given you among them. Look at how Abraham (the father of faith) was social. He lived peacefully among the Hittites before the death of Sarah. When He wanted to buy land among them to bury his wife, they (the Hittites) said that Abraham was a mighty prince among them. It is an insight into Abraham’s relationship with the natives of the place He lived.
4. You can meet both world and spiritual needs.
It is unwise to be too extreme on either side of the balancing. Laying too much on either the spiritual side or on the worldly side is unhealthy for someone who lives on Earth with the promise of one day inheriting eternal life. It is possible to have both wisdom and money, yet remain a good Christian. The scriptures write that wisdom, like inheritance, is a good thing. It means that they are both put on the same scale. In addition, wisdom is a shelter as money is a shelter. It means that both the spiritual blessing of wisdom and the worldly blessing of money are a good combination.
With world-spiritual balance, you get a fresh perspective never seen before in your life. This is how you can attain it.
