Unlocking the Wisdom of Spiritual Awareness
March 6, 2024The Church is the body of Christ. The scriptures say that we are the body of Christ and each one of us is a part of it. Consider the example of the human body. All the different body parts belong to one body from head to toe. No body part is inferior to another. They all complement each other in their roles to make the body function optimally. If there is anything that works perfectly, it is the human body. Unity in the body is automatic and necessary for the survival of all body parts. The hand stands up for the leg, the eye for the ear, and the shoulders for the neck. Whatever happens to one body part affects the others too.
Unity in the body of Christ is similar to unity in the body, if not more. The spirit holds the body parts together by giving life to the body. You can engage your body to do anything as long as you are alive. The spirit of God gives life to the body of Christ. Thereafter, we become different parts of the same body tied to the master’s wishes (the Holy Spirit). It means that you need to be in a good relationship with the Holy Spirit to be an effective body part or you will otherwise be defective. A defective body part is amputated from the rest of the body so that it does not infect the healthy parts. There is a lot at stake to be part of the unity of the body of Christ but God has laid bare the path to follow before our eyes.
1. You are a special part of the body of Christ.
Just as all body parts are important to the body, so are we in the body of Christ. The contribution and participation of everyone matter a lot. Nobody is entitled to any privilege for whatever reason. Consider Apostle Paul’s teachings on the unity and diversity of the body. Where would the sense of hearing be if the whole body were an eye? God placed all the body parts where He wanted them to be. This is how He has also placed you in the place where He wants you to be. It is the place of your divine assignment and you should not feel out of place. You are part of the body of Christ in whatever capacity you find yourself.

God does not want you to feel less important in your present position. All the fingers on the palm of your hand or foot are unequal but important in their different capacities. Dear friend, you are special, gifted, and unique. Continue working in the Lord and you shall remain to be part of the body of Christ.
2. Your productivity matters.
Your productivity in the body of Christ matters a lot. You will only stop being productive when you stop playing your roles. You bond more with other members of the body of Christ when you continue playing your roles. You can be a productive part of the body of Christ if you remain in the vine (Jesus Christ). He is the vine and we are the branches. We will bear much fruit when we remain in Him and He in us.
Every hardworking team member is a gift to the whole team. They add value to the team because of their productivity. A hardworking team member inspires a good and positive psyche to the rest of the team. Other members see it as possible to attain certain achievements like member X. There is motivation to retain a productive team member because he/she is not easily replaceable. The team will suffer in their absence. It is the will of God that you become a valuable part of the body of Christ. You will remain part of the body of Christ and be a cause of unity among its members. Your performance as a part of the body of Christ will be rewarded two-fold; first for being productive and second, for being a unity factor.
3. There is honor in devotion to your work.
Devotion in the context of unity in the body of Christ is being committed to executing your mandate in the place where the Lord has assigned you. Different body parts have different functions. One part cannot play the roles of another effectively. As such, each body part is devoted to performing its roles in the best way possible for the glory and honor of the whole body. It is written that if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it. The whole body of Christ becomes grateful to the single part that brought honor to it.

The Lord wants us to be devoted to fulfilling our divine calling. It is the best that we can do as a part of the body of Christ. God has placed among us apostles, prophets, teachers, workers of miracles, those with gifts of healing, and different kinds of tongues. They are part of the body of Christ and you have a place among them. As you devote yourself to your calling (according to what the Lord has put inside your spirit), the body of Christ will be honored when the world sees the Lord working through them. More people will receive salvation much to the glory of the Lord.
Becoming part of the body of Christ is a choice you make daily. The effort of unity can sometimes stretch you out or tire your body and spirit. However, there is hope in how God looks at your consistency in making an effort to remain part of the body of Christ. The engine of your dedication to remain in Christ is your love for Him and the Salvation that He has brought into your life. The more your love for God grows, the more you become a part of the unity of the body of Christ.
