Bearing Fruits and Manifesting Gifts of the Holy Spirit
July 25, 2024Fellowship in the Christian context is the coming together of believers to encourage each other in the Lord. It has a long history during the ministry of Jesus and it continued as a Christian tradition in the early church to date. It is the reason why most churches (if not all) have mid-week and evening services besides their regular Sunday (or Saturday) services. There is a secret attached to fellowship with God.
It pleases God when people come together for His sake. It builds the faith of the weaker ones in the fellowship and attracts those outside salvation to share in the love of the Church. Jesus witnesses that He is found wherever two or three people are gathered in His name. Jesus’ presence in a fellowship makes it an ideal place to go if you want to speak to Him. He has guaranteed His presence there. You can also pray alone in your room and God will still hear you. However, you can only tap the secret of fellowship with Christ when you are in one.
What does fellowship add to your life?

The Early Church was so deep into fellowship. It unlocked things they never thought of and they were very grateful to God for it. It will likewise do the same for you if you choose fellowship to be part of your life.
- It brings about signs and wonders.
Signs and wonders mark the presence of God. It is a gift that Jesus gave the disciples so that they may perform miracles in His name. When believers come together for fellowship, God works out miracles among them so that even the unbelievers may believe. Prepare your heart to receive answers to your prayers each time you go for fellowship. It is where God will create a testimony for you.
Believers in the early Church devoted themselves to fellowship and they were filled with awe at the many signs and wonders the apostles performed. Your church fellowship is God’s ground to work a miracle in your life. Devote yourself to attending fellowships and God will manifest Himself in your life.
- It cures selfishness.
God is selfless. You can see it in how He gave His only Son, Jesus, to die on the cross for our sins. As the image of God, we should also be as selfless as Him. Believers in the early Church had everything in common. They sold their properties to help anyone in need among them. They were each brother’s and sister’s keeper. This noble habit was created through their regular fellowship.
Are you struggling with selfishness? You can cure this ungodly habit by joining your Church’s fellowship. Once you do, God will instill the spirit of generosity in you and you consider the needs of other people above yours. The fellowship also kicks out envy among believers because nobody is attached to material possessions. Everything belongs to everyone.
- It makes you joyful.
Having a joyful heart is a big achievement today. Most people are bitter, envious, and angry at others for various reasons. However, fellowship cures all of them. It brings together people from different backgrounds and unites them for the sake of Christ. Fellowship led believers in the early Church to share meals with glad and sincere hearts. Dining together is an act of unity that the early Church discovered and practiced daily.
Fellowship makes your heart glad because of the love in Christ that you share with other believers. It focuses your mind on the joy that is in Christ and not the chaos outside there. The love of God introduces joy in your heart for His glory. Do not look for happiness in worldly pleasures but in fellowship with other believers.
- Â It earns you favor from people.

Interacting with other people enlarges your circle of friends. It is a form of networking that makes you appealing to them. Fellowship is beyond ordinary interaction. It is a Godly-ordained interaction with other people that is done for the sake of Christ. It is not done for any selfish benefit except for the body of Christ. Fellowship is beyond praying. It is also about sharing testimonies about the goodness of the Lord to encourage other people going through a difficult patch in life that God shall also redeem them.
The early Church made more friends than they did enemies. They enjoyed divine favor because their actions were inspired by God. It is also what you should do to attract favor from people. Join a Christian fellowship and God shall give you favor, for His name’s sake. Your local Church fellowship is the currency for God’s favor. You can now trade it in.
- It attracts new believers.
People are attracted to successful movements and a Christian fellowship is exactly one. It is successful because there is no personal Agenda but that of the good news of Jesus Christ. It inspires hope that God will redeem us from our various struggles. For this reason, the Lord increased the number of daily believers in the early Church.
A fellowship is like a bulb of light that attracts insects when lit but none when it is off. Jesus is the light in a Christian fellowship which attracts people to it. As born-again Christians, we carry this light in our life. When we meet for fellowship, other believers get attracted to us and want to join. As it was in the early Church, God shall also increase our fellowship and we should be ready for it.
Fellowship adds value to your life by being in it rather than staying on the outside. It turns around your life completely when you get a prayer partner inside there who will also pray for you. It is only possible in a strong fellowship where the Lord leads us through His servants. The secrets of fellowship with Christ can be found only within it, not on the outside. It holds keys to spiritual success you are yet to experience.
