The Holy Spirit is our principal helper. He is a fulfilled promise that Jesus gave His disciples before ascending to Heaven. His instruction was that they should not leave Jerusalem until they received the Holy Spirit. It is proof of the importance of a Christian to have the Holy Spirit before they go out into the world. There is a big difference between those with the Holy Spirit and those without. The former are well prepared to interact with the world while the latter are only surviving by grace. Knowing this, Jesus charged the apostles to wait in Jerusalem to receive the Holy Ghost.

God has revealed to us many things about the world through the Spirit. We manifest traits of the Holy Spirit in our lives and people see the difference between our former and present lives. It is how we are marked differently as children of God through the manifestation of the Holy Spirit in our lives. It is only the spirit of a person that can understand his mind because it is in him.

Similarly, it is only the Spirit of God who can understand the thoughts of God. The mind of God is infinitely wide and deep. There is no way to measure it. When we receive the Holy Spirit, we understand God’s gifts to us. These gifts make our life in salvation easier by learning about the mind of God and how we can fulfill His will. Alongside the gifts of the Holy Spirit are His fruits. They are a sign to the world that we are children of God set aside for a special purpose.

The fruits of a good tree.

Children of God are filled with the Holy Spirit (which is the Spirit of God). They live differently from those of the world. Jesus taught that we will know the nature of people by their fruits. For this reason, every child of God bears the fruits of the Holy Spirit that people will judge them with. They manifest these fruits of the Holy Spirit in their lives – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. They are an insight into the mind of God and He is best described by all of them. Since a child will always take after the parent, a child of God bears the Spirit of God.

Bearing the fruits of the Holy Spirit if He is not in you is difficult. However, it is easier and automatic to bear all of them when you receive the Spirit.

The gifts from the Father.

Besides looking like the Father, other things qualify you to be a child of the Father. They are the gifts that you receive from Him. It is the joy of a father to give gifts to his child. It is a way of expressing love to the child. If this is the relationship we have with our earthly parents, how much more will it be with our Heavenly Father?

God gives different gifts to His children through the Holy Spirit. We manifest them in our lives in the way He wants us to. He further guides us on how to use them to serve Him. Manifesting both the fruits and gifts of the Holy Spirit is the will of God for all His children. These are the gifts from above:

1. The gifts of wisdom and knowledge.

Knowledge is information and awareness about a matter while wisdom is the application of knowledge through intuition and good judgment. Both of them are gifts of the Holy Spirit. Granted that the Holy Spirit is the mind of God, it means that He wants us to be wise and knowledgeable about life.

God wants His children to dominate every life aspect with knowledge and wisdom in their respective fields. By becoming industry leaders and skilled workers, your Father in Heaven will be proud of you as a child working on His gifts.

2. The gifts of healing and working miracles.

Healing is restoring someone or something to its original state – either physically, spiritually, or emotionally. On the other hand, working miracles is doing something extraordinary. God gave these gifts to His children because He does not want us to fall sick or struggle with human limitations.

One way to manifest the gift of healing is for the church elders to pray for the sick. God promises to heal the sick person. He also wants you to pray to Him when you are on a humanly-impossible path. God will work a miracle through you and give you the way forward. The manifestation of these gifts will make the world a witness that you are a child of God.

3. The gift of faith.

Faith is blind trust in God. It takes the hand of God not to lose faith when it looks impossible for anything to work out. Stand out as the only person who believes in success even when everyone doubts its possibility.

Faith qualifies you to be righteous as it happened with Abraham. God wants you to believe in Him without a doubt. Trusting the Father is a gift from Him. Manifesting it makes you His own.

4. The gift of prophecy.

A Prophecy is a prediction about the future. It speaks of things to come even when there is no sign of it happening at the moment. God knows everything. He shares insights about the future with His children through the gift of prophecy.

The Prophet Amos says that God does nothing without revealing it to His servants, the prophets. You can align your life with the will of God by listening to the prophets and the Holy Spirit. As a child of a Father who knows everything, nothing should catch you by surprise. It is how you manifest the gift of prophecy.

A child of God bears fruits and manifests gifts of the Holy Spirit because they have a good relationship with the Father. To be led by the Spirit of God is a great honor. Embrace it!
