The temple of God is a very sacred place of worship. It is where man meets God and He ministers to him. The house of God is peaceful and a safe space away from worldly chaos. We go there to pray to God and fellowship with other believers. Sometimes we expect more from this sacred house.

However, do you even know how the temple you adore was built? It could have been a long time before you were born, yet it stands tall today. Despite the physical building that was built sometime back, we have a role to continue building the temple of God. It is a work in progress that we will hand over to our children and them to their children’s children.

The credit for building the temple of God.

There are two ways of building the temple of God – the physical and the spiritual way. Both of them are valuable to your spirit and worthy of your participation.

Concerning physical building, anyone can do it but God limits the roles that they can do. King David wanted to build a temple for God. However, God refused and appointed His Son (Solomon) to do it because David had shed too much blood. Solomon eventually built it for seven years. Besides being a very wise King, Solomon is remembered for building the temple of God. It demonstrates his big love for God.

Another person who built the temple of God is the centurion with a sick servant. The people begged Jesus to heal his servant because the centurion loved his country and had built a synagogue for the people. It is what he was cherished for and it earned him favor before Jesus who healed his servant.

That is why it is important to participate in building the temple of God. It highlights your importance in your community and earns you favor before God. Actively participate in building your local church in whatever capacity and you will forever be credited for it. It could attract your next miracle and answer your long-time prayer requests.

Concerning the spiritual building of the temple of God, it involves your body. The Holy Spirit reveals that the temple of God is not only a building of worship but also our bodies. We must glorify God in it. Building the temple of God is important for Him because He wants to have an eternal relationship with us. We bond more and understand Him deeper each time we go to worship in His presence. There is no better place for this other than His temple.

Those who build the temple of God with their bodies earn an equal reward as those who build the physical one. Since the temple of God is a sacred place of worship, you can build it by devoting your body to doing only the will of God. Dedicate your life to become His reflection in speech, thoughts, and actions. It was how Dorcas earned the miracle of resurrection. Widows wept as they showed Peter the clothes that Dorcas made for them. Her body was indeed the temple of the Holy Spirit and God was proud of her. She was resurrected by Peter so that she may continue to build the temple of God for His glory.

The credit for building the temple of God however the Holy Spirit may lead you is invaluable. God opens up ways to give you a chance to build His temple. It could be through the ongoing building project at your local church or the volunteer work in your community. It is your time to get all the credit that Heaven gives to those who build the temple of God.

The power to build the temple of God.

As clear as your intentions could be, you cannot build the temple of God without the power to do it. God is the one who gives this power to those who want to build His temple. Look at how He appointed Solomon to build the temple in place of his father, David. He gave Solomon wealth, possessions, and honor that no other King of Israel ever had. It was an addition to the wisdom that Solomon had requested. King Solomon was prosperous and built the temple of the Lord in the power God gave him. Israel enjoyed peace during his reign. King Solomon’s success in building the temple of the Lord came from the power he had.

Jesus knew the secret of building the temple of the Lord – it needed power from above. He told His disciples not to leave Jerusalem until they received the Holy Spirit who would give them power. The task of leading the early church was a heavy one if the disciples were powerless. The same is true as we also build the temple of God. It becomes a heavy burden on our shoulders if we do not have the power to do it. The Holy Spirit is the power you need to build the temple of God. He is the mind of God and will teach you everything about Him and how you can fulfill His perfect will.

The Holy Spirit leads you to make the right choices and how you can also better serve God in the ministry He has given you. It is how best to build His temple.

Consider how governments and leadership work – every officer performs his roles according to the power in his docket. The immigration officer is limited by the rules of immigration, the judge by the law of the land, the technician by the laws of physics, the doctor by the science of biology, and the same to all other officers. They can only act within their powers. Similarly, the Holy Spirit gives believers different powers according to their calling. It is how they will build the body of Christ.

God wants you to build His temple without minding what other people do. They may have a different calling from you and that is how they will build God’s temple. The Holy Spirit is the only power you need besides the dedication to work for the Lord.
