The tongue is a very small part of the body yet it plays a very important role. It is unimaginable how the body would operate without it. It is also at a delicate position inside the mouth full of teeth of all shapes and sizes. Yet despite all of this, it remains safe and discharges its function within the body. Unlike other body parts like the eye that reacts at the smallest provocation, the tongue is fine even when you bite it accidentally. What is the secret of the tongue that other body parts do not know?

The Lord teaches us about this secret and how we can optimize our spirituality using the tongue. Consider how a large ship can be controlled by a small rudder when it is in the deep seas where there are fierce and strong winds. The captain of the ship uses the small rudder to direct the whole vessel where it should go and it obeys. This reflects in the spiritual realm about the power of the tongue. It is as small as the rudder of the ship yet it controls your whole life. The whole body turns in the direction where the tongue will lead it to. As long as you are in control, there is nowhere you want to go that the tongue will not take you.

This is the power of the tongue:

1. It can either bless or curse.

It is a wonder how the same tongue that blesses God can again curse men created in the image of God. It still happens even though it is not supposed to be so. You have the power to choose the direction to lead your life by using your tongue in a godly way. Many matters in your life cannot go in any direction without your direct authorization that it happens so.

A perfect example happened with Jesus. He was hungry and the fig tree he saw had no fruits. He used His tongue to curse it that no one should ever eat its fruits again. The following day, Peter remembered how Jesus had cursed the fig tree and it had now withered. It was a learning moment with the Lord on the power of the tongue – that whatever you say in faith shall be fulfilled.

Your tongue has the power to bless or curse and Jesus wants you to use it like He did with the fig tree. Curse unfruitful situations in your life and bless the fruitful ones. Your barns will increase and you will never lack in the land that God has blessed you with. This is possible if you tap into this power of the tongue.

2. It can either give life or take it away.

God has put the power of death and life on the tongue. Your tongue can speak life over any situation. This is the path that God wants to lead you through. When God asked the Prophet Ezekiel if the dry bones could live, he said that the Lord knew.

However, God told him to prophesy over them so they may live. When he did, the bones came together and were covered with flesh. He prophesied again and they became a great army. The Lord demonstrated the power of the tongue to Ezekiel through this miracle. It also applies to us. We have the power to speak life over the dry bones in our lives. When the breath of God enters your life, the dry bones will become a great army.

God wants you to be positive even when things look as bad as dry bones. It is not the end of the road for you if only you use your tongue to speak life. God shall restore your health, heal your land, and expand your territory even in a difficult economic situation. Be confident in the Lord.

3. It can give you good health.

The tongue can say many things that will affect many aspects of your life. It also affects your relationship with the people you interact with. For this reason, the Lord wants you to guard your tongue and what you speak so that you may continue to uphold the good testimony people have about you. The reputation of the Lord in your life is at stake and you have the noble job of guarding it.

Speak sweet words to people instead of being harsh and insensitive. Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, sweet to the Soul, and healthy to the body. Your spirit will blossom in the beauty of sweet words and your body will also glow in them. Beautiful words will heal any hurt in your spirit because you feel that there is someone who cares. The tongue has the medicine for the hurt you feel in your spirit. It will lead you away from bitterness and towards the peace of the Lord. This medicine is speaking pleasant words.

4. It can either justify or condemn you.

Many people have entered into trouble because of their tongues. An equal number has also been justified because of the same. The way of life is that we interact with different people in different capacities. The conversations we have determine whether or not these relationships will last. The words that we also exchange can justify your opinion or decision and they can equally put you in a bad light. It is difficult to work with a tainted reputation.

We shall account for every word we speak when we appear in judgment. The Heavenly jury will determine your intentions through them and either justify you when right or condemn you to shame when wrong. The tongue shall testify for or against you. For this reason, the Lord wants us to sieve our words and carefully choose the path that we want to take.

It is Christian-like to discover the power of the tongue and tap into it because we are children of the light. We will be different from the world when we use it for the glory of the Lord.
